Chris,

Excellent post. You put into words very clearly one of the more difficult things to understand about trading:

"Losing will always sting but I now accept losing as part of the game."

That's it in a nutshell. You have to accept it because it will happen and it has to happen if you're taking the risk necessary to also come out on top sometimes.

Thanks,

-DT

Excellent article.

I did not like my portfolio at the beginning of January and I was holding a relatively big loser, which completely recovered now, but I elected to just get out of it and get rid of the stress. I actually did a complete reassessment of my portfolio and I think I sold practically everything. All of my choices, or perhaps most, were sensational.

I think if I'd stayed the course I'd be up a little, and that stock that I took a loss on would not have been a loss but I made so much more by taking a loss and moving the money.

Great post Chris.

My largest loss this year was an 18% drop on 07/03/07. It's hard. It's a great battle in my mind... I read then again the basic rules, found the mistakes (I felt stupid) and put my eyes in the next steps...

It`s like boxing,...get up and keep moving.

MDJ,
I am not a day trader so I am not on the computer every hour. My largest loss this year was an 18.54% drop in TWLL on 2/15/07 when it gapped on me overnight. I sold, sucked it up and didn't make another trade (closed a position in GRMN) for a 15.7% gain on the 23rd of February. I didn't initiate another trade until February 27, 2007. I don't get pissed when I lose but I would get extremely angry when I was younger and wanted to make my money back. I was consumed but I now just go with the flow. Losses will happen often when you trend trade.

Great article Chris. What do you do after a big trading loss? Do you step away from the computer and take a break?
