Kristjan,

Thank you - I spend a lot of time watching the NH-NL numbers as they have helped me more than most tools for getting in and out near tops and bottoms.

Hi Chris,
I've been looking into market breadth indexes for about a month now and during my research I was repeatedly directed to your website (via Google search, of course). I've researched most breadth indicators and I have to mention that your blog has been of great help to me. When it comes to the charts featured in this post, I think you deserve a pat on your back. You really nailed the top. As I understand, one of the factors behind your success is constant monitoring of breath indicators. Too often people only look at their indicators when something is already going wrong, not realizing that it's the constant feeling of the pulse that gives you heads up when something is about to happen. It's as if people didn't care about their money.

Thank you so much for those charts and the excellent explanations.

[...] Distribution Day #1: October 12, 2007 The number of stocks above their 50-day moving averages crossed above the overbought level of 80 last week and we saw our first major sell-off distribution day yesterday. This doesn’t mean you must rush today to sell all of your holdings but do understand that the next sell-off is not far from happening. Study the chart below and follow the purple line to see where and when the market had peaks and valleys as related to the number of stocks on the S&P 500 above or below their respective 50-day moving averages.
Remember 2/27/07? Also the latest correction mid July to August 07? Heavy volume absolutely may mark a change in trend - or not.

The volume on the selloff yesterday afternoon was pretty amazing. The QQQQ saw its heaviest volume day since the market swoon in August yesterday. In the short run a top may be in really soon.
