Hi Chris, thanks for the tip about using P&F charts. I've been using Bill O'Neil's CANSLIM but using that in combination with P&F has improved my timing immensely. I've been trying to find the books -- none were at my local bookstore. Was wondering if you used any of the other bullish patterns mentioned at sites like stockcharts.com, and how come you don't also use the double top breakout formation. Also, do you think an ascending triple top or ascending quadruple top is a better/worse indicator than the non-ascending patterns? Thanks again,
Eric

Nice to see Point and Figure charts are still used. I have discovered them a few months ago and since that time, I removed all other charts and indicators.

That's been the best decision ever for my trading.

But I am only trading forex so far. But I might add CFDs on stocks in the next weeks, too.

Hello Chris,

The Quadruple Top Breakout for FDS is more like a Pentuple Top Breakout for me.

I also write some posts about applying point and figure charts to forex trading. You might want to take a look at my blog: The Art of Speculation

Nice job

P&F charts can lead to differing results when you compare daily to weekly charting. Is weekly charting an incorrect use of P&F, or does this point to a longer-term trend for the stock. For example, compare a (bullish) daily P&F for GOOG:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.pnf?chart=GOOG,PHTBDANRBR[PA][D20080224][F1!3!!!2!20]&pref=G

against a (bearish) weekly P&F for GOOG:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.pnf?chart=GOOG,PHTBWANRBR[PA][D20080224][F1!3!!!2!20]&pref=G

Thanks for the timely post Chris. I had point and figure charts on my list of things to brush up on. I still need to do more work/study but your post was very clear and took away some of the confusion I had about them.

I have been following your website since The Kirk Report mentioned you. I also check on your charts at stockcharts.com. Great site and thanks for sharing all that you do!

Without reasonable volume your tiple top breakout could be a bull trap.
